Intake Air Induction Carbon Cleaning Liverpool

What are carbon deposits and what is decarbonisation?

Carbon deposits are a by-product of combustion. These deposits attach themselves to many parts of the engine, including those critically important to the performance and economy of the engine – fuel injectors, piston rings, oil passages, air passages, egr valves, turbos, intake manifolds and various sensors.

  • If fuel injectors are dirty this will interfere with the efficiency and effectiveness of the fuel spray pattern.
  • Deposits behind piston rings will restrict the ability of the rings to seal and therefore can cause a loss of compression (essentially the engine’s power).
  • Deposits that build up in the intake manifold can restrict and starve the engine of air and air flow.
  • When carbon builds up in a diesels induction system, you have a diesel gasping for air.
  • Deposit build up on actuators will restrict the movement of egr valves, throttle flaps and intake runners.
  • Deposit build up will restrict movement or even seize the moving parts of variable geometry turbos reducing power and performance.
  • Carbon build up will aggravate already existing drivability problems of rough idling, hard starting and poor fuel economy.

Decarbonisation or engine carbon cleaning usually refers to the process of removing carbon deposits.

How will carbon cleaning benefit my vehicle?

Normal servicing does not clean the inside of the engine and the associated components that are also associated to carbon fouling.

As deposits are a natural ongoing by product of combustion, without preventative maintenance they will accumulate over time therefore reducing power, smooth running, economy and fuel consumption.

The Air Induction Carbon Clean Service will quickly remove deposits from the air intake tract, inlet manifold, fuel injectors, valves and combustion chamber which will give the added benefit of :

  • Power restoration
  • Emissions reduction
  • Responsiveness
  • Smoother running
  • Fuel efficiency
  • Flat spot eradication

Having an Intake Air Induction Carbon Clean at regular intervals as part of preventative maintenance will prevent costly repair costs associated with heavy excessive carbon build up where there would be no other option but to remove intake manifolds and have them manually cleaned.

Limitations

As effective as Intake Carbon cleaning is, it does however have its limitations. It will not remove carbon build up an inch thick in an inlet manifold or EGR valve etc. When it gets to that extreme then there is no other option but to remove said item and manually dig it out. This is why we advise that an Intake Air Carbon Clean is carried out annually and is part of a service regime.

Our Carbon Cleaning Process

The vehicle is brought into our workshop and the Intake Air Induction Carbon Clean is hooked upto to the air intake flap/throttle body
A fuel treatment is added to the fuel tank
An engine compression restorer oil flush is added to your oil
The vehicle is started and the Intake Air Induction Carbon Clean machine is turned on and allowed to run through its process for approximately 45/60 minutes
When the process is finished an oil & filter changed is required
An oil additive will be added to your fresh oil

How Much Does It Cost For An Intake Air Induction Carbon Clean ?

The cost for an Intake Air Induction Carbon Clean & additional additives is £165, but not including parts required for oil & oil filter

EGR Cooler Cleaning

What Is An EGR Cooler?

An EGR Cooler is like a radiator, it uses thin passages surrounded by a water jacket to absorb away heat and cool the exhaust gas flowing through it before it is recirculated through the engines intake.

The role of an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Cooler is to cool the returning exhaust gas that flows through the EGR valve and reintroduces it back into the engine to lower NOx resulting in lower emissions.

It also aids in the engine warm up phase, maintains smooth and efficient engine operation, reduces ‘diesel knock’ and keeps combustion cylinder temperatures in check.

Correct operation of the EGR Cooler & EGR valve is critical to emission related systems such as the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

Over time carbon soot deposits will adhere to the walls of the passages creating a restriction in the exhaust gas flow.

EGR Cooler Cleaning Process

The EGR Cooler is inspected and pre weighed, then immersed in a specialist solution in our temperature controlled ultrasonic cleaner where it will go through a cleaning process.
Once the cleaning process is completed the EGR Cooler is then dried, inspected and reweighed

The EGR Cooler will be refitted along with new gaskets and seals and then re-adapted to the vehicle

As with all of our fault finding diagnosis we provide documented and photographic evidence of the before and after process

How Much Does It Cost?
To clean an EGR Cooler costs £180 Inc VAT this does not include removal of the cooler or return postage costs if sent to us

We also offer this service to other workshops

Additives

At SRC automotive we believe that using extra additives is essential for modern day vehicles.

Standard car servicing simply can’t remove the power and MPG sapping deposits that accumulate in your engine. Advanced fuel system cleaners, oil compression restorers, oil conditioners, dpf treatments and turbo cleaners help to keep your engine clean and running more efficiently, for longer.

Engine carbon deposits accumulate on intake valves, fuel injectors, ports, actuators, turbos and combustion chambers causing loss of power, rough idle, hesitation, misfire, pinging, knocking, reduced MPG and poor starting.

For general preventative maintenance we recommend a duel approach, one product for the top half of the engine, to tackle fuel system issues and one for the bottom half, the oil system
These two factors, injector spray pattern & engine compression are vital to maintaining and restoring power and economy

  • Fuel system cleaners and conditioners will clean fuel injectors, throttle body, plenum and air intake, intake valves and ports and remove combustion chamber carbon deposits therefore restoring fuel economy, reduce environmentally damaging exhaust emissions, and restore the fun of like-new drivability to your vehicle
  • When fuel injectors get deposits on their fine spray holes it can interfere with the ability of the injector to atomise the fuel into the engine
  • Oil Compression Restorer Flushes will clean deposits from rings, restoring peak compression, ensuring maximum power and efficiency
  • Rings around each piston ensure a good seal, loss of compression and therefore power is usually due to these rings being gummed up and restricted from deposits
  • Cylinder compression is vital for a vehicles power and economy. As a vehicles piston moves it squeezes a fuel/air mixture in the cylinder, giving it explosive power

We use chemicals and products suitable for various conditions and preventative maintenance from only the best suppliers on the market, BG Products & JLM Lubricants

Products That We Use

BG 109: Engine Performance Restoration

A revolutionary formula with proven “ring-clean” technology. BG 109 Engine Performance Restoration is a quick and effective blend of cleaners that will soften, emulsify and dissolve those hard to remove fuel & baked oil gum that clog rings
Modern engines operate at high temperatures. Combined with prolonged drain intervals and reduced engine cooling, automotive engine oil is under a lot of stress. Continuous thermal and oxidative breakdown contributes to oil thickening, heat retention and deposit formation. Heavy deposits can impede normal piston-ring function; thus reducing fuel economy, lowering power output, and increasing harmful exhaust emissions and oil consumption. Compression will increase with removal of these deposits.
Safe for use in petrol, diesel and rotary engines.

BG 245: Premium Diesel Fuel System Cleaner

  • New improved chemistry for modern higher pressure diesels BG 245 is a premium fuel system cleaner for diesel systems. The BG range is regarded by professionals as the best fuel system cleaners of their kind.
  • Today’s diesels can produce more power with less fuel than ever before. Injector tips in High Pressure Common Rail injection (HPCR) systems are designed to handle and produce twice as much injection pressure as mechanical fuel injection. However, diesel fuel is not, being notoriously inconsistent and therefore a threat to HPCR systems. Injector deposits at a miniscule quantity can cause sticking and carbon begins laying on the fuel injector & filter until it reaches a point of plugging.
  • BG 245 Premium Diesel Fuel System Cleaner removes and dissolves deposits from the entire diesel injection system, including inside fuel injectors and combustion chambers. Plus, BG 245 contains a fuel lubricant agent to protect components from wear and cetane improver for cold starts
  • BG245 is suitable for car, motorcycle, commercial, agricultural and marine engines. They will not harm the turbo charger or diesel particulate filter.

BG DFC Plus with Cetane Improver: Maximum Diesel Performance

  • BG DFC Plus with Cetane Improver cleans the entire diesel fuel system including injectors and nozzles to restore maximum fuel atomisation. Increases the cetane quality of diesel fuel.
  • Contains BG Diesel Pump Lubricant to protect pump parts from damage due to low-sulphur fuel.
  • Reduces exhaust smoke, improves fuel economy and restores maximum power.
  • BG DFC Plus is a milder, but effective cleaner than BG245 and is offered as part of our duel pour service

BG 44K: Premium Fuel System Cleaner

  • Consistently recognised by many as the best fuel system cleaner of its kind. And New BG 44K Platinum is better than ever. Vanquishes deposits from combustion chamber, intake manifolds, ports and on valves and restores flow in fuel injectors.
  • BG 44K contains a very high level of PEA (Polyether Amine), an expensive chemical that is recognised by all engine manufacturers including Ford, Toyota, BMW, General Motors, Honda and others as being the effective treatment for removing hard baked carbon deposits.
  • Carbon deposits can lead to injector problems, misfiring, poor running, erratic idling and other factors that lead to loss of power and less MPG.
  • BG44K is suitable for car, motorcycle, commercial, agricultural and marine engines.

BG DOC: Maintains Diesel Engine Power

BG DOC Diesel Oil Conditioner is designed to condition oil in modern high-output diesel engines.

Modern diesel engines operate at high temperatures and pressures. This puts a lot of demand on diesel engine oils and the additives they contain. Hydraulically activated fuel injectors increase oil pressures and emissions devices increase soot accumulation in oil. These systems test the limits of engine oil. Under the right conditions, heat causes sulphur from fuel to combine with entrained moisture to create sulfuric acid. This acid wreaks havoc on engines, causing corrosive wear and severe damage to engine components.
BG DOC Diesel Oil Conditioner maintains like-new diesel engine power and performance, neutralises acids and acid corrosion, reduces friction and wear on engine parts, stabilises viscosity, prevents sludge through increased oxidation and soot control.

BG MOA : Superior Oil Fortifier For Petrol’s

A superior oil fortifier that lengthens the effective life of oil.
Modern engines run at increasingly higher temperatures. This, combined with the increasing regularity of stop-and-go driving, cause rapid depletion of critical oil additives. Without these protective additives, severe engine oil oxidation occurs. Oxidation reduces oil to heavy, black sludge in the crankcase, oil screens, oil passages, rocker arms and other critical areas of the engine.
BG MOA® fortifies all qualities of engine oil, providing superior, long-lasting engine protection and maintain peak engine performance. It prevents engine oil oxidation and thickening under even the most intense driving conditions. When installed by a professional, it keeps engine components clean to help extend engine life and reduce cost of operation.

JLM ReGen Plus

JLM’s Diesel DPF ReGen Plus fuel additive discourages excessive soot quantities from building within the diesel particulate filter (DPF). The results are improved emissions, performance and fuel economy but using JLM’s Diesel DPF ReGen Plus as a regular preventative maintenance measure lessens the chance of inconvenient and costly DPF breakdowns. It’s used to help the car regenerate its DPF filter.

Constantly reduced speeds and short distances are especially detrimental to DPFs. While cars thus equipped possess a sophisticated ‘regeneration’ self-cleaning function, it struggles to work under such challenging driving conditions, especially during winter. As temperatures are insufficiently high to burn soot particles, which are a natural product of burning diesel fuel, they accumulate to form stubborn, coal-like deposits that are tough enough to block the exhaust system. The car’s self-cleaning regeneration function needs support and JLM Lubricants answers the call for help with a shot of chemical expertise.

JLM’s Diesel DPF ReGen Plus enters the engine with the diesel fuel. When burnt, its formula envelops soot particles similar to that of sugar-coated chocolate confectionery. This outer coating encourages the encapsulated carbon to burn and exit the exhaust pipe at lower temperatures than would be possible otherwise.

While JLM’s Diesel DPF ReGen Plus’s gentle cleaning formulation provides additional protection for older DPF-equipped vehicles that are less tolerant to higher temperatures, it also supports the smaller DPFs, fitted to newer cars. Instead of being based on an iron catalyst, JLM Lubricants chose cerium instead, which produces less ash, an unavoidable by product of burning both soot and fuel additive.

While ash can be removed, the procedure requires removing the DPF from the exhaust system.

This explains why JLM Lubricants views the low-ash production of its cerium-based Diesel DPF ReGen Plus as being just as crucial as its superior ability to keep DPFs clear of soot accumulations, when compared to iron-based fuel additives.

Benefits of JLM ReGen Plus:

  • Suitable for all diesel cars with a diesel particulate filter
  • Improves combustion; less soot
  • Improves regeneration of the diesel particulate filter
  • Burns soot at a lower temperature; better cleaning
  • Prevents power loss due to a blocked diesel particulate filter
  • Significantly prolongs the service life of the diesel particulate filter
  • Prevents Blocking DPF

JLM Turbo Cleaner

JLM Turbo Cleaner is one of the best Turbo Cleaners available on the market right now. It is an inexpensive product, easy to use and removes dirt and soot extremely effectively.
Economical, extremely easy to use and removes dirt and soot very effectively. If you say turbo, you say: all systems go! And yes, that is absolutely true. After all, a turbo has been developed to considerably increase the power of a gasoline or diesel engine. But what to do if that fine pacer gradually gets contaminated under the hood? This shortcoming manifests itself quickly because a dirty turbo results in loss of power, unnatural power build-up, increased full consumption or even an excessively smoking engine.

If you cover a lot of short distances, are often in a traffic jam and the turbo is only lightly loaded, it will not become ‘clean’. And that will become clear over time. Because dirt and soot are the biggest enemies of a turbo, and because of exhaust gasses a turbo can get pretty polluted. If a turbo is dirty, there is a risk of wear and, moreover, the VGT turbine wheel (turbocharger with variable geometry) may get stuck. It cannot rotate properly and therefore cannot do its work as it should. Replacement is extremely expensive and often unnecessary. Thorough cleaning of the turbo – without dismantling (!) – is the most economical and logical next step.

That next step is called JLM Diesel Turbo Cleaner. This proven JLM product works just as simply and uncomplicated as the name suggests. JLM Turbo Cleaner has been developed to restore engine performance, reduce soot emissions and is suitable for all diesel engines. JLM Turbo Cleaner is very easy to use, the liquid can easily be added to the diesel in the fuel tank. And there you go: fast and affordable turbo cleaning is now a fact.

After using JLM Turbo Cleaner, dirt and soot have disappeared. The turbo can boost engine performance again and the air-fuel ratio is ideal. Immediately after JLM Turbo Cleaner has done its invisible job, you notice while driving that the turbo is like new. In short, JLM Turbo Cleaner increases the service life, cleans the turbo and restores the original output.

Benefits of JLM Diesel Turbo Cleaner:

  • Restore engine power
  • Reduce soot emissions
  • Cleans variable geometry turbo’s (VGT’s)
  • Avoids costly VGT Turbo disassembly for decarbonising
  • Reduce soot emissions
  • Restore engine power
